On September 2, 2015 the Esperanza English Institute started its Fall 2015 Session with over 180 students from a variety of countries. The Institute serves the community by providing quality ESL instruction nine hours per week for an affordable price. There are five levels in the institute starting with Fundamentals for those who know no English up to Level 4 after which students can begin their pathway to Esperanza College.
At this time last year, enrollment was at about 80 students per session. In 2015, the numbers have rapidly increased along with the diversity of students. At present 54% of the students are from the Dominican Republic. The next largest groups are from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Guatemala. Four to five percent are from Honduras and Ecuador. Other countries represented are El Salvador, Peru, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba with one student from Togo, Africa. This Fall session will end on December 8, 2015.
We are particularly proud to offer these courses, because it is a direct response to the needs presented in our community. We know that learning English can be the door of opportunity many adults need in order to continue their education. Esperanza College seeks to provide education that is both affordable and accommodating to the unique cultural needs in our community. That’s why we offer a Spanish Track in which you can begin your education in Spanish and transition to English so that adult learners can easily transition to earning their associate’s degree.
