Daniela Rodrigo Newman’s Story: Journey in Early Childhood Education

Stories of Hope

Daniela Rodrigo Newman made it her life work to help children!

Originally a family lawyer from Bogota, Colombia, she moved to Philadelphia in 2021 as an au pair. During that time, she developed a passion for early childhood development, which led her to a job as an assistant teacher at Mi Casita, a Spanish-immersion preschool.

Encouraged by her boss at Mi Casita, Daniela enrolled in Esperanza College’s Early Childhood Education program to become a certified lead teacher. Once enrolled at Esperanza College, she loved it! “My experience was so enriching,” she said. “I had the opportunity to learn from [an] amazing professor.”

During the program, Daniela unexpectedly stepped in as interim lead teacher. Initially feeling unprepared, she credits the ECE program for giving her the skills and confidence to succeed. “It helped me understand my responsibility and my role in the classroom,” she said.

Earlier this year, after earning her Child Development Associate Certification, Daniela received a promotion at Mi Casita. She transitioned from assistant teacher to office manager, a role that fits with her personal philosophy. “My goal has always been the same: fighting and advocating for kids and their rights and their wellbeing,” she said.

Daniela continues to grow in her new position and is excited about her future. Her boss recently encouraged her to apply for the Director Credential at Esperanza College – a step Daniela hopes to take next year.
