Esperanza Immigration Legal Services (EILS), a leading immigration legal services non-profit in North Philadelphia with more than a decade of service, will host its in-person fundraising event, Celebrating Hope for Immigrants: Cuentos de Esperanza, on Thursday, May 19th at 6:00 pm EST at the Esperanza Arts Center’s Gran Salón.

Celebrating Hope for Immigrants: Cuentos de Esperanza will highlight the stories or cuentos of immigrants in our communities as told in their own words: including the powerful contributions immigrants are making each day in our neighborhoods and the ways in which EILS’ legal services provides encouragement, opportunity and hope along their journeys.

Founded out of a commitment to strengthening the Hispanic community, EILS serves the immigrant communities regardless of national origin. As a leading immigration legal services provider in North Philadelphia, EILS empowers primarily low-income and Spanish-speaking immigrants through local trust and accessibility. During the pandemic, EILS forged innovations in service delivery and continues to be an essential resource, partnering with immigrants on their journeys to eliminate barriers to leading vibrant lives here in Philadelphia.

The Honorable Charles M. Honeyman, EILS Civic Impact Honoree, and Fernando Chang-Muy, Esq.EILS Champion Honoree, will be recognized for their influential work to improve the lives of immigrants in our region. The program will also feature a performance by multi-disciplinary artist, cellist, violinist, and songwriter Daniel de Jesús of his composition, The Journey, performed together with Carolina Diazgranados, and Mel Hsu. Hunting Park born and raised visual artist Priscilla Bell Lamberty will develop a live creative piece during the event as a tribute to immigrants served by EILS.

EILS Board Chair Michael Malvey shares, “EILS’ work is unique because of its trusted place in the immigrant community, both in geography and reputation. The funds raised for EILS’ services will be put to good use to help many in our community overcome barriers to citizenship and other immigration relief that will pave the way for each to accomplish their dreams for themselves and their families – and many more stories of hope.”

Regarding why Cuentos de Esperanza, EILS Executive Director Anu Thomas says: “Every conversation that I have had with a client has led to us connecting about a shared experience: work, relationships, children, the community… we are all reflections of one another. If we can see our reflections in the ones we serve, then maybe we will approach the work with equal energy and passion. I know this is true for me and my team.”

Celebrating Hope for Immigrants will be hosted by 6abc News’ Walter Perez.

Special thanks to leading sponsors Galfand Berger, LLP during their 75th anniversary year, as well as McKenna Snyder, LLP and Palladino, Isbell, Casazza, LLC.
